The Lord Mayor’s annual Big Curry Lunch (BCL) will be known to many of us, and several Phoenixes have attended them in the past.  For those not familiar with it, the BCL is a curry lunch in the Guildhall in aid of the three Armed Forces charities (ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, and The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund);  upwards of a thousand people join the lunch every year and in 2018 it raised £191,000.

The 2019 BCL will be on 4 April, and I know it will already be in several members’ diaries.  Tickets will be £100 each, no increase on last year’s price.  As in previous years, there will also be a Silent Auction of various money-can’t-buy experiences and prizes.

In past years, people seem to have preferred to go with other members of their own livery, but if there was a demand for a Phoenix Group so that we could go together, I would be happy to organise it – there are advantages and extras if one forms a group of 15 or more, such as a special entrance (avoiding the queues, which can be considerable), a champagne reception and a special table, all at no extra cost.
